The Leipzig Book Fair is the most important spring gathering for the book and media industry, bringing together readers, authors, publishers, and media representatives—not only from Germany but from all over the world. They all come to Leipzig to experience the diversity of literature, discover new releases, and gain fresh perspectives.
A joint excursion led by Heike Zobel and Annegret Frauenlob took place on Friday, March 28, guiding us through Hall 5 of the exhibition grounds: to the presentation of the Stiftung Buchkunst (German Book Art Foundation), the printmaking marketplace, as well as exhibitions by universities and art schools. In the evening, we attended an event hosted by Büchergilde at the Museum of the Printing Arts, where we delighted in the magnificent printing machines surrounding a book presentation.
On Saturday, March 29, we took part in the independent publishing fair it’s a book, organized by the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB), where we presented student work from the graphic workshops of Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. The event, accompanied by a symposium, offered a wonderful opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues.
To conclude the excursion, we visited the exhibition Buch|Kunst on Sunday, held at the BBKL’s project space 4D in the Tapetenwerk. There, we received an insightful guided tour by curator Tim Adam. After a stroll through the grounds of the Spinnerei, we visited Salon.Buch.Kunst at the Grassi Museum of Applied Arts. Surrounded by the museum's permanent exhibition on craft and design, Friederike von Hellermann and the Leipzig-based Staffel Verlag, represented by Felix Lorenz and Leon Friedrichs, gave us fascinating insights into their respective working methods.
The excursion was organized and accompanied by Annegret Frauenlob and Heike Zobel.
