Climate change, war, the crumbling of democracy, global crises in abundance. What role can – and should – design play in times of polycrises? Is it relevant to the system or should it oppose the system? Can design even exist outside the system – or has it long since become the system itself?
The Communication Design Talks at Folkwang University of the Arts in the summer semester 2025 will put these questions up for debate. It is about the relevance – and irrelevance – of, with and through design.
Chaired by Kathi Kaeppel (Professor of Moving Image), Stefan Guzy (Visiting Professor of Visual Identities), and Dr. Kim Albrecht (Professor of Information Design).
