The Audiovisual (AV) Workshop offers students the opportunity to gain practical experience in the fields of animation, film and video. The projects created here include performative, documentary, narrative and creative-experimental works in the context of time-based media. Workshop leader Stefan Michels introduces students to the professional use of video technology, teaches the basics of image and sound design with post-production software and supports students in the realisation of their projects. The AV workshop provides equipment for video, film and sound recordings and supervises the moving image laboratory.
The Moving Image Lab offers space for creative work with audiovisual media, the exchange of ideas about projects and networking among students. It acts as an interface between analogue and digital moving image techniques and combines the technical infrastructure of the AV workshop with the courses offered by the Moving Image department. The modular workstations can be individually adapted to the requirements of student projects.
Equipment of the workstations
- 2 workstations for analogue animated film (animated cartoons, animated cartoons, lay animation, stop motion, Dragonframe)
- 4 workstations for digital animated film and post-production (TV Paint, Blender, Touch Designer, Adobe Suite, DaVinci Resolve)
The AV workshop is part of the Communication Design degree programme, but is also open to students of other degree programmes and works closely with the video workshop of the Photography degree programme.
