Anne Büttner
Visiting Professor of Visual Identities
Anne Büttner is a designer based in Berlin. For the past 15 years, she has developed visual identities, publications, websites, and cross-media projects, primarily in the cultural sector. Her work moves between commissioned design and an independent artistic practice.
Engaging with content is central to her work, as is the question of how visual orders emerge and operate. Identities do not appear as fixed visual systems, but as constellations of typography, image, language, space, and medium that exist in dialogue with one another and evolve in relation to their context. Design thus becomes a form of critical reflection and positioning.
Her practice was shaped by her studies at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie, where collective work, shared experimentation, and the consistent questioning of existing graphic systems were central. Analyzing and rethinking formal orders remains a key part of her approach today.
