Falk Schwalbe

Visiting Professor of Visual Identities

Falk Schwalbe, born in 1986, is a freelance graphic designer working in the cultural sector. He mainly designs and prints concert posters (gig posters) in Leipzig.

He studied at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication Design in 2011 and a Master’s degree in Editorial Design in 2013. Both degrees focused on type design. During his studies, he spent a guest semester in the Typography class at the Basel School of Design (HGK Basel) in 2009, and a semester in the Type Design class at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB Leipzig) in 2010. In addition, he completed a six-month internship at FontShop International in Berlin in 2012.

Since 2013, he has been working as a graphic designer in the fields of culture and music. His primary medium is posters, which are produced in the screen printing workshop he founded that same year. From 2012 to 2022, he was part of the artist collective Rainbow Posters.

He is also regularly involved in teaching—for example, in 2017 and 2022 at the Burg Giebichenstein University of Art and Design Halle, where he taught a screen printing course. In 2018, he led a relief printing course at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen. From 2020 to 2023, he was a lecturer at the HGB Leipzig, where he taught introductory courses in the screen printing workshop. In the summer semester of 2024, he held the professorship Visual Identities at the Folkwang University of the Arts in Essen.
